Hi everyone,

I said I would post on the outcome of a cake I made for my jazzercise instructor. The class held a surprise birthday party for the instructor after class one night. I was out of town taking care of my mother, so I could not attend that night. I went to class last night for the first time since I got home. The instructor came up and thanked me for such a beautiful and great tasting cake. She's a huge fan of Rod Stewart, so I put an edible image of him on the cake. She would not let the class cut into Rod, and she took home the whole piece that had the image on it! She wrote me the nicest thank you note saying how much she appreciated me taking the time to make the cake for her and who would think that Rod Stewart would come to her party and even go home with her! I thought that was so great. It makes it all worthwhile when people appreciate your time and talent. In answer to a request for the caramel vanilla buttercream icing, I just added 2-3 tablespoons of the Coffemate caramel vanilla creamer to it. Wow! This was the first time I used this flavor and it was to die for! I don't know how to attach a picture of the cake, but you can view it in my photos. Thanks, Janice

I guess it's a good thing the image didn't cover the whole cake. She wouldn't have shared! icon_lol.gif

Your cake looks great, and now I'll have to try using the flavored creamers in my buttercream! Thanks for the tip!

Ali, Thanks for the compliment. Yes I do believe if I had covered the entire cake with the image, the class would not have gotten any cake! lol! And yes, try using the creamer in your icings. I've also used the french vanilla in my buttercream and it's good, but the caramel vanilla, I liked even better. There's a few other flavors of creamer, so I may have to try them sometime. The irish cream, amaretto or hazelnut would be delicious! Let me know if you try them and how you liked it. I also add vanilla, butter and almond extract in addition to the creamer.
Thanks, Janice

I had made my mom a cake with Elvis in royal icing--She took it off and now poor ol' Elvis is in the freezer. Don't know why she put him there.

Thank you all for your nice comments. I had fun doing this cake just like I do with every one I do. As I look back at the cake, I am thinking, why didn't I make the stems on the roses longer! I was a little bit distracted doing this particular cake. As I was standing there trying to decide what to put on the cake, I had that sexy image of Rod staring up at me as well as thinking about what to pack for my trip to Ohio. I know we are all guilty of being our own worst critic and sometimes I don't always have the design completely thought out until I start doing the cake.

Thanks, Janice
