Hi there everyone!

I'm not working on cake tonight but working on seating cards and holders for a party we are working in October. I have two weeks "off" of cakes so I'm using that time to work on these. So print out set up, hot glue and hand wrapping wire is going to take up my evening but I will stop in from time to time to make myself take a break to see what everyone has been up to this week!

Here is the shower cake I was talking about last week:

The Mom to be adored it and the beehive was a personal cake for the 1st child who was simply charmed by it. I was her new best friend! LOL!

What is going on with all of you and, for those in the USA, what are your Labor Day Plans?

Good Evening Cat and those that follow ,
It is almost Saturday lunchtime here in the land of Oz. I have had a huge week . Following our State caking conference last weekend ( that was three days of fun and all things cake.) and a good excuse to stay in a nice hotel and have a few special lemonades with friends .
I was straight into stewarding for our City's show. I managed to get two cakes finished for entry , I also enter the baking and horticulture sections. So getting everything done as well being at the show everyday doing the display cases, assisting the judges , being there to accept all the entries was a rather full week.

I am very pleased that I got a second with my Wedding cake ( I knocked it up in three hours the night before judging ) and I got a first for my Christening cake ( I did spend a lot more time on that one) . I also took out nine other prized in the other sections so all in all a good show for me.

I will post pics when I bring home my entries on Sunday.

So just baking for my next week I have fruitcakes to make, one is for a porsche cake and one for a wedding cake , so I will probably do a big batch and get a jump on the Christmas baking.

Cat that is just the most adorable cake . I love it.

Well happy caking everyone.
Chelle

Congratulations ChellusCakes!

I am personally going though sugar craft withdrawal. Just bought a house and everything is packed - I kept out some gum paste and a few cutters for a while to ween myself for the move.

Although I'm looking forward to working in the kitchen which is twice as big as this one, the shakes are beginning - I feel the need to roll out something...lol

Hello, everyone!
I'm working on eating a bowl of chocolate pudding. icon_smile.gif I just spent 9 hours deep cleaning 3 rooms and I am whooped! No cakes for me this weekend but I have two for next weekend. I bake those and get those in the freezer this weekend. Other than that, Labor Day weekend will be spent cleaning and perhaps a bit of yard saling. This is a huge weekend for yard sales in my town and I've got the itch. icon_smile.gif

I have been working on the attached for the past 2 weeks and just finished them up today. They are for a fireman cake for a 2 year old for next weekend. I think I actually enjoy making figures more than the cake. I will be making the actual cake next week.

Obviously I'm not the only one who has been trying to get on here with no success tonight! UGH! Seriously almost gave up when I was finally able to get back on.

Erin...your figures are adorable!!! SOOOO cute!

I got a lot done tonight while trying to get back online to here...I got all 20 seating cards and holders done! YEA! One less thing to be done for the party in October!

Now I'm going to go curl up with book 3 of The Hunger Games and try to get it finished tonight.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

No cakes this weekend (although I do have an order for 24 key lime tarts for Tues) so I'm enjoying the quiet. I've been making flowers for cakes due in Sept and October: 50 red roses to cascade down a 4 tier cake; 2 doz. assorted flowers and 2 hummingbirds for a three tier cake; 10 gerbera daisys for a 2 tier birthday cake;and a thistle for a Scottish themed grooms cake . My hands may never be the same.

I feel your hand pain. My fingers have not recovered from all the wire wrapping from yesterday and I have more for tomorrow planned! LOL! I'd love to see your hummingbirds when you are done! LOVE them!

Ok...so here are the photos...will put the main one up and then try to put the others up too<G>

They each hold a little envelope with a seating card in the coils. They are meant to be extra favors that people can take home and then display photos with.

World Travelers is the theme. There are maps used everywhere and the cake is stacked luggage. The keys are like the old fashioned hotel keys and the wine corks are from wines all over the world. The favors are varies forms of Murano Glass from Venice. The whole thing will go up on the Cherry Party Blog, http://thecherryontopevents.blogspot.com/ , once the party is over...so about November 1st. I'm working on the vases for the centerpieces today..yup, more wire work<G> but I love how these turned out so it's worth it!

I really love them both but that Blossom one is just so adorable...you literally have to go "Awwwww" when you see it!

Question on the other cake...did you freehand the leaves or press a form into the cake then follow the pattern? Congrats on the 2nd place too!

I just cut the leaves out with my normal rose leaf cutters , I veined them and then place them on the cake where I wanted then overpiped them with royal as well as piping in all the stems. Oh I did lustre them first with lustre mixed with alchohol.

I fell in love with the blossom cake as I was doing it , I had a really clear picture in my mind how I wanted it to turn out , and I actually managed to transpose it all onto the cake.

I couldn't tell that there were cut outs on that cake...it looked like you just piped on the leaves. Gorgeous!

I rolled my flowerpaste really thin like I do for my flowers. If you can't see through it it isn't thin enough. ( words from my teacher that I now pass onto my students lol )

I actually knocked that cake up in three hours quite late at night , I was really suprised that it looked quite good when I got up in the morning.
