Keeping Frosting for practice

I am rusty on some of my decorating techniques, so I wanted to 'brush up'. How long can I keep frosting around for just 'practice' purposes. I hate the idea of keep making frosting and having to throw it out when it's not getting eaten. However, I didn't know if it would work to make some and just keep in refrigerated for practicing.

Any thoughts?

It would work.

It will last a long, long time especially when frozen or refrigerated. Even if it starts to separate, it can still be re-whipped.

Keep it as long as you want, just keep in on the counter so it is room temp and you can practice it anytime. Pipe, scrape it off and re-use over and over. Don't bother coloring it either. Just don't eat it. It makes it much less tempting to eat it while you ice too since it has been sitting out and used and abused.

If you're *sure!* it won't be eaten.....make up the Wilton practice decorator icing - all shortening w/o flavoring. It will keep for weeks at room temp........depending on how warm the room is or in the frig for 3-4 months.
