I tried to cover a foam, foil-covered cake base with scrapbook paper and shrink wrap. When I heated the shrink wrap it crept up above the bottom of the board. I tried a second time, taping the shrink wrap to the bottom of the board, but it crept up again. I'd like to hear your method for covering a cake board with shrink wrap. I've searched the web for tutorials and videos to no avail. I really like the smooth, food-safe surface that shrink wrap provides, as well as the endless possibilities for decorating the base to complement the cake. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I've never used shrink wrap, but I've used food safe cellophane.
I just cut an oversized piece the shape of the cake board and taped it down on the back. I was covering wrapping paper that coordinated with the cake theme. It was very smooth when finished.
At other times, I cover the paper or fabric that I've put on the board with clear Contact paper. It's not as shiny as the cellophane, but it works very well. As long as the cake is on its own board the same size as the cake, it's safe to place it on the Contact paper.
