Can I cover edible image w/piping gel???

I am making a fish tank cake for my great niece for her 2nd BD...she LOVES fishies. I was going to tint piping gel blue and put on the top of a 1/4 sheet then decorate with fish, coral etc. What I want to do is put an edible image photo of her face on the cake then slather tinted piping gel over it so it looks like she is looking in from the other side. Any one know if I can cover the edible image with piping gel???? TIA...I love you guys & this site, I have learned soooo much

I am saying you cannot. It will be too wet for the image. I use edible images at times, and this is what i have learned about them. hth Piping gel would just dissolve into it.

What you might try is a very smooth layer of aluminum foil laid flat onto the icing, under the piping gel. Then when somebody looks at it you get a watery reflection of their face.

I also fear that the printed image will run badly as soon as it get near any piping gel.
