I know of one around here but she's not a nice person to talk with so I don't want to ask her but I have mixed feelings about using boxed mixes for a business. I love the doctor mixes as they are semi-homemade BUT if I were to get a shop out of my home, is this still OK? My main focus has always been on the art of the cake BUT the cake itself has to taste good too. My husband pointed out the fact that many restaurants open boxes, cans and packages of stuff to start and then add things to make them their own. I went to a nice restaurant in DC a few weeks ago and my dinner partner is allergic to walnuts but wanted one of their mini pies so she asked to know for sure what was in it. The waiter brought out it's individual box from another company; I was surprised.
Anyway, how "kosher" is it to start off with a box mix in a cake business outside of the home and if it's common, where would I find it in bulk?
Thank you SO much for any thoughts you have, I am collecting recipes I would like to try but am nervous since my clients are all in love with the taste of my cake already. This could be an OK change or break me. I'm scared to change!!!
