I want to do a birthday cake for my mom using a 10 inch tier on the bottom then a giant cupcake on the top. I want to do a candy shell for the cupcake liner but I am wondering what is the best way to support the cupcake. I do not want a cake board to show underneath the cupcake and I really don't want to pipe a boarder around the bottom. I thought about using a pretty little plate under the cupcake but not sure I want to do that. Her birthday is not until november so I have time to practice but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

As long as you use a support system in your bottom cake to support the top tier - yes you can do what you plan on doing.
Dowells/bubble tea straws would surfice as far as your support structure goes. I do like your idea of using a plate under your Large Cucpake Cake - its different yet a pretty idea. Sounds like you are on a winner presenting your cake.... look forward to seeing your final creation...
