I'm making a 3D house cake and want to stick signs in the yard. I'm planning on using gum paste for the signs... but am having a hard time coming up with how to actually place the signs on a stick and jab them into the foam cake board (which will be covered with piped BC grass). Are there any tutorials out there or can someone shed some tips on how I can do this?

The signs would be similar to like a "Yard Sale" sign... a sign on a stick jabbed into the yard. Thanks in advance!

Depending on the size of the signs you could use toothpicks. The Publix near me offers a variety of sizes of Bamboo skewers. I use them for all my signs!

Thanks for that tip! How do you connect the sign to the toothpick or skewer? Do you just make the sign thick enough and pierce the skewer through it? Or is there another way? I want my signs to be fairly thin.

when i make signs, i make the g/p thick enough to twist toothpick or fine skewers in. works really great.

Another way you can do it is to lay a popsicle stick or lollipop stick on the back of your sign and use a little rectangle of gum paste like tape to connect the stick to the back of the sign. Use gum paste the same color you used for your sign and it won't stand out. I learned that on My Cake School. It works pretty well!

You can also attach the sign to the stick with royal icing.

Make a 'patch' by covering some of the stick with more fondant.

I would suggest maybe putting some water on the toothpick, poking it into the sign if it is thick enough, and gently pressing it together. Then leave it to set. This should make it stay

The last sign I made I rolled outy my fondant/gp very thin and srapped it around floral wire. I then attached it to the back of my sign with gp glue. It held up great through long car ride.
