I am making a wedding cake for mid September. My friend wants buttercream frosting on the cakes and her scroll design cut out of black fondant and put on the sides of her cake. The scroll work is simple and will be in 5 inch sections with a 1 inch blank space in between the 5 in. sections of the scroll design. I will make a stencil to cut the scroll out of the fondant. There are 8 seperate parts of the scroll design which I can easily connect to make one design in each 5 in. section. I will smooth the buttercream and then add the fondant scroll stencils. I was wondering if the fondant scroll design will adhere to the buttercream frosting easily using buttercream as glue.

It will as long as the buttercream has not crusted over. If the butter cream is crusted over you will have to use sugar glue made from water and gumpaste. But then you will need to be carefull not to push into the buttercream causing it to look crackled. Hope that helps
