Covering Foam Core In Fondant

I'm going to cover a foam core board in fondant. My question is, do I need to put something down between the foam core and the fondant, or can I put the fondant directly on the foam core?

I rub the foamcore with a smidgen of shortening. It gives a nice stick to prevent air bubbles.
