A 10-inch round cake, either 2 or 3 layers, covered in fondant and then the figure and weights will be modeling chocolate. I already quoted a price but I wanted to see what others thought.

For me, I would do our base price for the cake +$35 for the guy (our standard base for figures) +$35 for the rest of the stuff. Our 10x3" cake feeds 20 for $115 in fondant. So the total I would charge is $185.

Oh good! I thought I was over charging by charging $100. I guess I could have changed more, but the last time I lost a job because the bride couldn't swing what I was charging (it was a cake for 50 people, this is just for 25). So I decided to go on the lower side since I'm just starting out.

You were in the right ballpark, our price would be $54 for the 10" cake (2 layers) + $30 fondant covering + $60 for the fondant figures = $144. Be careful about starting out too low though, you'll want to make sure you are attracting the right customers from the beginning (those who will pay extra for quality work).

Thanks! You are right about starting too low. But this is a friend of the family, so I don't mind going a little lower for her. If I gain any business from her party, I can always tell them that I gave her a friends and family discount. Plus, I figure I can have her hand out my card, so it is extra exposure for me. Next time, for a similar cake I would charge $150 for sure.

I charge $2.00/serv. for individual cakes iced in fondant, this one would be $84 plus $25 for the man figure (I charge a minimum of $25 for people figures), and probably $5/each for the smaller modelled items. So I would charge $124 for the whole shabang...and this would include 2 layers of cake and vanilla buttercream between the layers.
