Which is better for coloring cake batter--gel or liquid?

I'm making tie dye cupcakes and I wanted to color the batter red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Is it better to use the Wilton gel, or the liquid food coloring you can get in grocery stores?

Thanks!

You want to use the gel or paste. The ones from the grocery store are too watery and you need much more color to get the shade you want. I use americolor only need a few drops, its great!

Hi! I have tried both methods, I found Wilton Gels are by far the best for a vibrant colour (although I have not used americolor before, so Wilton is only best for me by experience!) . When I've tried the supermarket-bought liquid dyes the colours were very lack-lustre and dull in comparison.

Thanks! This is good because I have a lot of gel colors and I would have to go out and buy the liquid coloring since I'm out of blue.
