I'm helping out with a cake next Saturday. The lady I'm helping is covering the cake in buttercream and doing roses but she doesn't know how to work with fondant so she wants me to do the the draping on the cake. I've never done it before, but I figured since I work with fondant a lot it shouldn't be to hard. Any advice?Or does anyone know of any tutorials I should watch? Would you believe I learned to do swags from Susan Carberry. She taught it in a video on Yummy Arts some years ago to use dowel rods to create the look. I cut a rectangular piece of fondant, carefully push 12" dowel rods evenly spaced apart by1/2" under the fondant and gently press the fondant around the dowel rod to create the look. I do about 3 or 4 dowel rods per swag. Slide the dowel rods one at a time back out. Pinch the edges of the swag and dampen the cake in the two spots to attach the swags. That's it! Have fun. Keep trying it till you get the look you like.
