I am making some big ( 3-5 inch long by 1/4 inch thick) purple coneflower petals out of MMF, and want to have them dry by Thursday or Friday at the latest. Can I put them in a food dehydrator or the oven to help them harden up faster? I am worried they might crack. Anyone ever tried it? Does it work?
I put my items that I want to dry quickly in the oven with the light turned on but the oven is OFF. They dry surprising fast. I used this method to dry the leaves on my Sunflower cake.
Thank you so much. I'll try that! - Your sunflower cake is absolutely phenomenal! Wow!!
I tried the oven, and my dehydrator, just to see if they worked. They both worked better than nothing, BUT, if you have them too close to the light bulb, or the bottom of the dehydrator, they get hot and almost melt, like melting fondant in a microwave. If you are going to put them in a dehydrator, put a few empty trays in first, to elevate it above the heat source more. ( Mine is just a cheap Oster one from Wal Mart on a predetermined heat setting, )
