Hello
to start, I really love traditional wedding cakes but some people say it's old fashoned. Is it weird still wanting to make the old school cakes? ( with the fountains, the buttercream roses and swags, the bells and pillars and stuff) cause always when people order a cake and they say that they let me design it I make it so traditional as possible
I love doing traditional cakes , I love making sugar flowers large cascading bouquets and arrangements . Lots of filler flowers ribbon etc. All on lovely fondant iced cake , with nice piping. Even better if underneath it happens to be fruitcake .
Hey there, you are not alone! I too just love, love, love those b'cream 4 & more tiered, pillered cakes. One of my favorites that I made is this one: http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1357611/7-tiers-with-stairs

Woww!!! Thats so beautiful! I really love the traditional stuf, but Wilton doesn't sails the stairs and tuk n ruffle and things like that no more, but I know that God will provide me!!!
Cultural trends tend to be cyclical, so it's only a matter of time before the more traditional designs become trendy again.

You can find almost all the "traditional" ("old-fashioned") stuff on Global Sugar Art or sugar...craft...com. You can also do searches on eBay and you'll find a lot of stuff popping up.
I love the traditional style from the 60's and 70's and 80's. kakeladi~~Your cake is gorgeous. Now THAT'S a wedding cake! It takes up the whole table and presents a magnificent centerpiece for the reception hall.
As far as this traditional/classic/old-fashioned style being "weird"; well....that's in the eye of the beholder. If the bride looks at a photo of kakeladi's cake for an example and screams, "Yippee! That's It!", then go for it. If she screws up her face and says that look is a little old-fashioned, suggest some other design.
kakeladi your cake is sooooooo pretty! I just love making the traditional type wedding cakes too! Those were the first types of wedding cakes I made. I still love making them and try to infuse the new with old.

LOL.... you just made my day
I enjoy making all the accents pieces, fondant, bc etc but its so much more work.
Culture and ethenicity I believe play a role in what sells as well. I couldn't find this stand so in order to make this one for an order I had to have it made. Costly but its a favorite around here But.. I think a lot of people really enjoy that old school stuff, I've had more hits on this pic than all my others.

That cake is beautifull! Just as your signature sister!
Although fondant is fun, I really miss seeing cakes like this all decorated in buttercream. I hope this style makes a comeback then maybe there will be more classes on piping skills. I think it is becoming a lost art.

Me to! cause if you search for traditional wedding cakes on this site, the most of them are from at least 2 years ago. I will make a very traditional cake for my parents wedding anniversary.
....., I really miss seeing cakes like this all decorated in buttercream..................
Look through my gallery........probably 95% of my cakes were b'cream

Heheheh! You should've seen my face, that emoticon was spot on. I had to use it
I'm not a big fan of all the traditional cakes. My personal taste is more toward the cleaner lines. Plus my piping skills are non-existent so there's no way I could do a cake like these. Yes, i think they're absolutely beautiful, just a little too busy for me.

Not true, I have pictures of cakes that I made from the 1980's posted in my pictures. Feel free to look at my cake pictures. The older cakes are in the later part of my pictures.
