What size wires does everyone use for pop out stars/hearts/ect.? I have some florist wire on a roll, but I can never get the wire perfectly straight & they can't seem to hold up heavier pieces of fondant/gum paste.

I use 20g- 22g wires for this . hth

I also use 20 - 22. DO NOT get wire on a roll. Get it in precut straight pieces.

And unless you know the wire is food-safe (e.g., surgical grade wire, or maybe the skewers out of a turkey lacing kit), you want to completely isolate the wire from the food (e.g., with plastic straws or hollow coffee stirrers).

Thank you all for replying! That helps a lot. icon_smile.gif & Yes, we always use those coffee straws with royal icing inside before adding wires in the cake.
