I use the following:
Ateco- 869
Wilton- 1A, 123, 2D, 1M

I know there are more out there, c'mon gals and guys, share your tips...

Do your writing in b'cream with tip 2. Make your letters tall and very skinny with lots of swirls and curly-ques for more interest.

My favorite tip for cupcakes is no tip at all. I have some couplers (I think the brand is KeeSeal) that don't have the notch in them that the Wilton ones have. I find them the perfect size to make a pleasing swirl on my cupcakes.

I love using the massive Loyal brand thermo tips for big swirls.
