Happy Friday everyone. Worked all day on a sugar rose tutorial (not done yet) which proved challenging thanx to Duff's soft red fondant....well, that and the fact I kept forgetting to photograph steps so I would have to go back an re-do it! LOL! The rose is for a Beauty and the Beast cake for mid August. Wanted to get it started now so it would have time to dry solid by the time I need to suspend it inside the dome for the top of the cake. I finished the petal work today, will work on the green work on Sunday then put the whole thing up on my blog that afternoon.

I've been taking a "vacation" of sorts. I say "of sorts" since I have been doing research for my party blog, meeting with clients for upcoming cakes and working on the sketches of those cakes but haven't baked a single thing in over a week. Believe me, my family is griping about it! LOL! I'll have to make brownies or something to molify them this weekend!

How is everyone else doing?

I only did one cake at work (toy story) because my boss was super nice and scheduled me early so I can work on my friend's wedding stuff.

For the wedding tomorrow I'm making a 3-tier strawberry and cream filled chiffon cake, brown butter lemon bars, and carrot mini cupcakes.

The 3-tier will be decorated like this , and the minis have gold, blue and yellow wrappers on various patterns will have gold glitter on top.

So far the cake is final coated and stacked, the cupcakes are baked and cooling, and the frosting and lemon bars are done.

The cake you referenced is one of my favorite designs ever. I keep hoping that one of my clients will decide to love it as much as I do! LOL!

I have 3 jobs...one as a part time asst. mgr. for our apartment, one as a party planner and one as a cake designer. Tomorrow I'm covering for another manager who is on vacation so no caking this weekend. Back at it next week tho.

Please do post photos here when you get done??? We'd love to see your dessert bar!

Hello all,

Have lots going on this weekend. Just finished a spa cake for an 8 year old girl. Has 24 cupcakes along with it. That was time consuming.... But I am pleased with it.

Now to work on a small black and blue reception cake. Quite simple but hoping it will turn out as the drawingicon_smile.gif

Following that, I have a 3 tier Avengers cake for a 3rd birthday.

Everything is baked/prepped now just to decorate. It has been a long couple of days. I had delivered a 3 tier wedding cake Thursday evening as well. "tis the season I guess.

Be sure to post a photo of your Beauty and the Beast cake. Sounds like it will be pretty.

I'm ba...ck, lol. Had some time off and spent it with my family. I feel I just don't get enough of my grandkids. But now its time to get busy again.

Working on the pieces for my granddaughters baby shower cake, Its next week. We found out yesterday that the baby may be attending the shower, Surprise.... Also piping babies on candy rods, chocolate lollipops and some cookies.

The theme is Nemo, I've been wanting to try my hand at the gelatin bubbles tutorial. I started working on it since yesterday. Not as easy as they show, I think it would be less time consuming if I did them in white chocoalte.

I've also had several consults and calls this week. So Sept & Oct calendar filling up fast.

Brettley, funny you should say "Avengers cake"...we just decided (the kids and I) that my husbands 50th b'day cake was going to be a 3 tier Avengers Cake!!! LOL! I'll look forward to seeing how yours turns out! The B&B cake is a background cake with lots of handpainting...I just got the figurines in the mail that will surround it. 2 tier 6 and 10...supposed to look like her dress, the yellow one, with the draping and all that...rose inside the dome topper. Or I hope it's in a dome..having issues finding one....but am still looking. Problem is that most of them either cost an arm and a leg or they are just too big. Might find a bottle that will work instead and make a finial top out of fondant for it.

Ginn! Nice to see you back again. I do know what you mean...I had a whole week with my older girls and my grandkids and yes,you can not get enough of them! Congrats on the new grandbaby! I have had more shower cakes this summer than ever before...quite the baby boom! I tried the gelatin bubbles too and finally scratched them from the design. The rubber ducky "bathtub" became a rubber ducky topped laundry basket filled with baby blankets instead! I wish you MUCH better luck!

What about a cupcake display. My husband bought me a Miniature glass cupcake dome display thing (never been used as I do not know what I would use it for, but don't tell him that) Have you looked into something like that? He bought it from the Bay at Christmas time I think. A little pricey here but this is what I am talking about.

Cat, the balloons cover better when the gelatin is at the set up stage and thick, but if it gets too thick they look a mess. Since you have to let each coating dry thoroughly it might take 2-3 days. Like I said, I could do this work with while chocolate, thinned with paramount crystals and they would be ready overnite.

Thank you, he will be my Great Grandbaby icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

That IS what I'm looking for but not that expensive. I know I can find a small cup or bottle that I can turn upside down and make a pretty finial for just a few dollars. The cheapest I have been able to find is $15. I'll work it out...wish I had the budget or room for these tho! LOL!

Wow! Great Grandbaby!!! I have two grands...one girl almost 3 and one boy 15 mos. Too much fun!!!

I'll give the bubbles another try when it's not for a clients cake. Fortunately I decided to try it before pitching to my client and was able to act like the laundry basket design was what I was going for all the time<G>

I honestly didn't think of white chocolate but I like the idea of pearlized white chocolate even better!

Since it is for my grandaughters cake I am trying the technique knowing I have a week for them to dry. But if it doesn't work I'll have a back up. I have carte blanche so I don't even have to put bubbles either. I just thought it would be cute and I like to do things for my family before I offer to customers. I think we all do that.

I just finished a 3 tier Avenger's cake. I still have a baby shower cake to do for Sunday. As long as it's fireman themed, I get to decide the rest. It's not even baked yet.I get to do it all tomarrow when I get off work from my real job. Fun Fun!

Yeah, I was excited to do it. My friend gave me a few pictures she liked and I sent a few to her including that one, so I was pleased by her choice. I can't wait to see her whole wedding set up. She designed her own invitations, and has been making pretty much all of the decorations, including finding lots of vintage pieces. I told her when I get married she has to do my wedding.

I feel you on having too much going on. I have so much going on with work and in my personal life, doing this wedding has been stressing me out like crazy.

Hello from Downunder, Cat and everyone,

I have had a busy week , I taught two workshops for the association. I looked after my great- nephew , I ran my Mum around to several doctors appointments .
So even though I didn't do a cake I was still rushed off my feet.
Not bad for someone that has to have a three hour nap every afternoon.

Hope all your cakes have turned out for all of you, I love checking back for the photos.

I have to prepare for next week's lessons tomorrow. I am teaching Peonies this week.
