I have a recipe that I'd like to share, but first let me say I NEVER do this! I am always in such awe of you bakers, that I normally ask for recipes and never post my own.

My sister loves Red Velvet cake, and I have tried scratch and doctored mixes and always the cake is just TOO DRY! I decided to play 2 days ago., and this is what I came up with. My daughter says it tastes just like Red Velvet, and I say it tastes like a cross of German Chocolate and Red Velvet??

Anyway, the cake was really very good, and MOIST! So, here's the recipe.

1 box French Vanilla Betty Crocker Cake mix
1/2 c. All Purpose flour
1/2 c. sugar
dash salt
3 Tablespoons Hershey's cocoa
1 1/3 cup water with buttermilk mix in it, ( 1 1/3 c. buttermilk)
3 eggs
1/4 c. sour cream
1/4 c. oil
2 tsps vanilla extract
1 tsp chocolate extract
1 teasp. baking soda
1 tablespoon Vinegar ( see Note )
I used the Gel red food coloring about 1/4 of the small tube

Mix and bake n 2, 8 inch rounds at 325....

After cooling I split the 2 cakes, to make 4 layers and frosted with cream cheese frosting and pecans. It turned out so much better than I ever expected.
the next time I make this, I think I will leave out the chocolate extract. I used Watkins brand, it made the chocolate too strong. I think also the next time I make this I will add coconut to the frosting.

(Note) I was using what I had in my pantry, and all I had was red wine vinegar.

If any of you make this, will you let me know how it turns out?

Thanks!
