I am going to make a marzipan figure to go on a birthday cake but I am a bit pushed for time.

I was thinking about making it this weekend but the birthday is not until second week in August.

Could anybody advise me if this would be ok. Would the figure still be alright to be eaten? And how long for future reference is it alright in advance to make these figures.
