it sounds like the consistency that you made yourr fondant is not right. You shouldn't be able to pull it like taffy. It should be somewhat stiff for you to roll out.

also, any imperfection on the surface of your ganache will show through your fondant. That's why we scrape the ganache so that it is perfectly smooth with no ridges or bumps. It doesn't matter how thick roll your fondant it will not cover that up. so if you're cool with that, then proceed!

I, too, am anxious to see the final product. When I did my first (and only) LV purse cake, I was up for days. Never even crossed my mind to use frozen pound cake. It turned out okay for my first one, but I learned some things to do and not to do while making it. It was fun though.

I haven't forgot about ya'l

I had it completed Saturday afternoon, but I have been busy working on a dream catcher and detailing a car, and saw Spider Man (which is WAY better than the other one I hated by the way - a new favorite actually) pictures coming Sunday morning when I'm up to the whole android > computer > upload fun, I promise I wont bail!

Camera is dead so I am charging that so it's ready by sunrise when I show her the purse, hopefully it looks realistic enough to shock her for a moment icon_twisted.gif regardless... I think it turned out very nice compared to how I thought it was going to be once I had put on that pain in the arse fondant.

Oh even better, our husky decided to hop up on the counter and you have NO IDEA how lucky I was to have caught him... it wasn't even me who saw him... a friend saw him through the kitchen window when I was outside talking to them and they thought he was trying to look at us.. i knew EXACTLY what he was trying to do, make me fall on my knee's in tears was his plan, jealous he was yes. He managed to get a nice 2 - 3" area of it into his mouth. Now I have to do a touch up in the morning and add like a gum paste flower or something to it... I'll figure something out.. I don't want it to give it away instantly as a fake .... then again, I have been looking at this for 2 days straight almost so my judgement of it's appearance is not clear it could be crap from an outside perspective.. and I'm not a purse guy who knows allot about purses...

I just kinda made it a logical process of how I would make a purse in real life with a sewing machine etc.. the order I would go in, the signs of construction (sewing holes etc) In the end I just went off of my imagination and gave up on looking at the purse on the LV site to save myself from an OCD habit of being meticulous. Ah well it's sleep time..... thumbs_up.gif If I can with my anticipation for morning that is...and my fear of the husky opening our fridge and ripping it apart or my roommate putting the friggen egg carton on top of it again (luckily that was after the ganache process! it was hiding under wax paper so he thought it was really dark bread ugh) icon_cry.gif

I took pictures of the entire process from forming the structure to fixing the dog bite...to make a little tutorial but realized I'm not ready to put out a tutorial haha..

Very good job!! Wouldn't know it was your first time working with fondant. I did the same thing when I did my first purse cake, as far as just looking at it as how I would put together a real purse, stitching and all that. Big question though, I bet you're girlfriend just LOVED it. Hope she realizes all the work you put into it. As someone else suggested you really should show her this thread, she'll get a kick out of it, seeing all the nasayers and your determination. So have you found a new hobby? Beware it can become all consuming, lol

Well at first glance I was going to ask if we were being punked, and maybe you're not such a newbie!
It looks way better than I expected!

Well done!!!

Solace don't be so hard on yourself. Remember you are your own worse critic. For a first time cake I think it is excellent. You still have a lot to learn but don't we all . Great job don't give up and next cake start earlier.

I think your cake looks awesome...what detracts from it is your board. If there was anyway to put that cake on say a gold plate charger...or some other base, it will look a thousand times better. Or go invest in a thicker smaller cake board at Michaels.
I'm sure I'm probably too late with this but just an FYI for future endeavors. I think your sculpting skills came through on this one!

This morning I read this entire thread with delight! I am SO proud of you! That is a wonderful cake. I too wondered if we were being "punked", especially when I saw how well you did on your purse cake. The dog bite is what convinced me.

I'm really glad you didn't hurt the dog. [Recently, I made my first gum paste flowers and when I hung them to dry, I heard a happy licking sound. Yup. The dog. I threw those flowers away. I still have the dog.]

You did a great job! I think it looks awesome, yes there is room for improvement, but that is all in the learning process. I am new at cake decorating and every time I do something, I learn of someway I could have done it better for next time. And the advise and information you get from the great decorators here is priceless.

I too have been lurking about this thread, cheering you on and laughing out loud! I must say BRAVO!!! Awsome job!! I am amazed that you created such a wonderful cake with what seems to be a whistle and a stick! It takes me every tool under the sun and a heck of a lot more than $27.00!!! I suspect she will never forget the love that went in to the LV purse, and that it has more value than a real LV could ever have. thumbs_up.gif

Thank you everyone ^_^ *blushing**

This really tried my focus... You see, my problem in school and many things in life, is that I can't sit still long, and I get up, and get myself distracted.... with this...I would get up but then sit back down... had to keep going... having you all expecting a cake from me also helped urge me on, not to mention the smile on my girlfriends face I was picturing in my head haha. It felt SO GOOD, when I put the flower over the bite patch I shaved off, that moment, i knew it was done... felt I could breathe icon_razz.gif and like the muscles in my back relaxed. Cake decorating is a liberating experience... I think now that I started off with such a freakinggg hard project... I shouldn't have a hard time on the more 'easy' basic cakes that are circular and whatnot. I wont forget the only frustrating part - putting the fondant over the purse. JEEZ! Almost went berserk and gave up
