I am planning for a bridal cake next week and would like to consider a 3-D bride with dress. I looked at the tutorial for making the body but I am not sure what to use. I am new and prefer the taste of either Satin Ice or Fondx but I find them to be so soft when putting on cakes I can't imagine trying to model a body from it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I use Gumpaste? Would Wiltons be a little stiffer?
Thank you in advance.
Jennifer
I use Satin Ice with Tylose Powder added to make it easier to work with and harden quicker. I made a Bride and Groom using Satin Ice and Tylose and had no problems with them. Some people like a 50/50 mixture of Fondant and Gumpaste. I have also used that and it works well, but most of the time I just use the Satin Ice with Tylose.
Have you tried Artista Soft? Creates a beautiful finish and is very delicate. Will last for years too.
Non edible but used in the UK a lot.
Here is a link to one supplier: http://www.lindyscakes.co.uk/shop/Artista-Soft/. They ship all over the world quickly and reasonable priced too.
I would advise to use fondant and gumpaste 50/50. This works well and it dries and hardens fast. You could also use just gumpaste but it becomes expensive if you have to make large pieces.
