There are a couple of real nice rooster cakes posted on here. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to make the feathers (short and long)? I really like

I have to make him 3D but laying down on a 8" cake like he is dead (don't ask, LOL) with the tail feathers drooping down 12" & 8" cake.

You can just use leaf molds to cut feathers out of fondant or modeling chocolate. Or you could just pipe the feathers on with a large petal tip.
