So I tried my iron to steam some gum paste items I had made. Eh.. it kinda worked, but not really. I think it's the iron though. So I'm looking online at steamers.. I've heard the teakettle and iron idea, but those won't work for me. If you have a handheld steamer, which one is it and do you like it?

Thanks!

I had a little hand-held steamer that caused a near disaster on a competition cake so be really careful with those.

I steam my gumpaste flowers over a pan of boiling water. I just keep it over the steam for a short time and keep it rotating so I get all sides evenly steamed.

On my cakes, I've switched to brushing a light coat of vodka on them. It gets rid of any powdered sugar and give them a soft, semi-gloss finish that I like. If I want something to be shinier than that, I make a glaze of vodka and corn syrup (a tip I learned from Alisa Siedling of Cakeworks).

I doubt if I'll ever steam a cake with a steamer again. There was a thread on here a while ago with some recommendations, though; I'll see if I can find it.

Here it it; it was actually in my own ranting and raving post icon_biggrin.gif

Haha thanks icon_smile.gif

I guess one of my issues is that I want a steamer that I can use to point the steam downward, like if I have a tray of unwired flowers sitting that I want to steam. I can't hold them over boiling water since I don't want to touch them while doing so, now if they had wires that'd be fine. So will this My Little Steamer work like that? Pointing the steam down towards a tray on the counter top?
