I am in serious need of a yummy, stable, dairy-free frosting. I'm making a birthday cake for a little girl who can't have "un-cooked" dairy products. I made a test batch of Martha Stewart's seven-minute frosting last night and it was absolutely dreadful- a soupy, flavorless mess.

I've been googling for a week now and I'm beginning to feel like what I need doesn't exist! I need something comparable to an American buttercream, dairy-free, that will hold up well, so that I can do this.... PLEASE HELP!!!!

Check out the Wilton meringue buttercream that uses shortening, sugar, water, meringue powder. It works great on cakes and has no dairy at all.
