Heart Shaped Cake: Unexpected Outcome

Premise: I made the same cake many times but always much smaller in a 8'' heart pan and it was ok.
This time the lady wanted the same exact cake but twice as much servings. I don't have a bigger heart shaped pan so I've got to cut it out of a round cake trying to keep as much cake as possible. So it came out much rounder and taller than I really wanted. Well...
There are also pink baby fondant boots going on the top so hopefully they won't notice but if you look at the back side - let's face it - it looks like............... a big fat pink bottom (aka b..t)
I'm almost ashamed to deliver it to them but it's ready now and sitting (great wording) in the fridge. Kids were quite comprehensive and tried to convince me it didn't look so bad saying: 'At least you were not supposed to use any brown fondant this time!' Doesn't help a lot.
Sorry for the attachments, I never had any luck deleting multiple ones, they just multiplicate themselves.
Your decorating skill is evident. The cake is beautiful. And the height is nice. Just a little too round for a heart design. But your customer should be pleased.
I see what you're saying...but it does look beautiful. A little bootylicious (lol) but still beautiful. If you delivered that cake to me, I wouldn't be disappointed at all!
I know what you mean. When I was making candy, I made a bunch of chocolate, strawberry cream filled poofy hearts for Valentine's Day. When I turned the tray around, it looked like a bunch of brown butts staring at me. Everyone loved them, but all I could do was laugh.
Your cake is beautiful as usual. Your customer will love it.
So I gave a glance to that 'bootylicious' thingy in the fridge again hoping it had miraculously changed its shape somehow (obviously it didn't). Fortunately it's gone now: Mom was happy and Dad seemed quite appreciative and particularly fond of a certain part of that cake. Men...
MisterCakePro, PinkLotus and jgifford - thanks a lot for a moral support! (jgifford you always give me a giggle BTW there was a pound of milk chocolate ganache and almost a pound of fresh strawberries and raspberries as fillings, I just hope they don't decide to peek out.) Just started to decorate a castle cake for tomorrow morning thinking about what could go wrong with this one. Probably the turrets...
Sometimes it seems like cakes have their own lives or ideas about how they would want to look like. If not caught in time, any later effort is useless.
In the future there is a way to make a heart cake using a round and a sq. Try googleing it. It's easier than sculpting the shape from one round.
One puts the sq on a board like a diamond shape then cut the round in 1/2, putting each 1/2 on the side of the point of the sq. It's very hard to describe but sort of like this: (1)
Here's a link to show you....not the greatest pix but helpful. http://www.betterrecipes.com/blogs/daily-dish/2012/02/08/valentines-day-heart-shaped-cake/
It is a very pretty cake! But I had to laugh as I started to read the name on the cake from the bottom upwards. When I did that, it really brought the bootylicious out in the cake.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a warped way of looking at things! That's hilarious!
LOL!!!! I must have a warped mind... and these comments ^^ aren't helping one bit. As long as the customer was happy, all's well that ends well.
Oh Paula, I am so glad that I didn't see your post until after the cake was delivered. Truly, I am glad that it all turned out well, but I am still laughing. I don't think I could have cheered you up when you were feeling so insecure. Your work is, as usual, flawless, butt.......... oops, mean but, it certainly doesn't leave a lot to the imagination.
Agreed: men and their sense of humor! He will remember this cake fondly. And whoever could go wrong with chocolate ganache and strawberries!
I only hope that my disasters turn out so well.
