I am thinking of making my husband's 40th birthday cake in the form of a standing tombstone. I'd like the tombstone to be made out of cake but am not sure how I would bet it to stand. I know I'd need to potentially use dowels for support but if I sandwich two cakes together - I'm now sure how the dowels are going to help me stabilize it all
Desperate for some help - need to finalise and bake by Friday
I don't think that I would try to stand 2 cakes up on their sides. What I would do would be to make lots of layers with support every 4 inches then a couple of dowels all the way through. Kinda like how you make a purse cake. Hope this makes sense. Good luck!
I've made several "coffin" cakes for 40th and 50th birthdays. i have a picture of one on here, but not sure how to get it on the forum. you can look under my name though.. auntieju
I have a tombstone cake in my Pics; however, the grave is the cake part. My tombstone was made out of gumpaste.
