Hi there everyone!

I'm going to be in an out tonight. I'm working on sugar flowers and so I will pop in when I need to take a break.

This is my week "off" so I decided to clear out most of the demo cakes and get ready to start with new designs. I mentioned this to my niece who said "well, then, create a cake for me!" so I am. She is funny and colorful and cheerful so I'm going to make all sorts of sugar flowers for her cake. All different colors and types. She's like that.

I'm off to my younger daughters tomorrow and we'll work on another cake there. I'm teaching her how to work with fondant since she is primarily a buttercream kid. In fact, my husband surprised us with buttercream/fondant tshirts this past Christmas! LOL!

I saved 3 of my demos and will work back up to 10 again before January. Make some use of slow weeks when I have them.

What is everyone else up to tonight?

Finished a 40th anniversary cake with bling ribbons and red roses. Also created a 40 out of sculpey then pressed rhinestones into it and inserted tooth picks so it can stand up then baked it. Came out great, then completed a scroll design wedding cake with teal ribbons and just finished covering another wedding cake in pale pink fondant. Tomorrow I'll pipe a white lace design in royal on it and pray that moisture from the fondant won't dissolve the royal.

Hey everyone...first time posting on FNCC! I am just sitting here doing some research on bows,, I have a present cake that I am making for next Friday night and I'm not sure if I should use straight fondant or fondant/gumpaste or just gumpaste. Any suggestions?

bows, to hold up...pretty much needs almost all gumpaste to hold their shape. if you need a to add a touch of fondant for workability you can...but i would go with all gumpaste.

When I get off work tonight I'll be working on a Minnie mouse cake and finishing up 48 cupcakes. It will be my first and doesn't seem overly exhausting but I know how things always seem to take a turn for the worst when I least expect it lol.

Will post pictures when I am done. Attaching the bottom cupcakes are scary. I added melted chocolate to the bottom layer of cupcakes for extra security.

My first Friday night post! I usually forget or the cake is done by Friday. If only....

I am working on a couple stacked books and an apple for my best friend's party tomorrow. I am just a hobby baker and I have never tried a book before. I think it is going ok....but my husband has been laying working outside all day and I have been trying to keep my 2 year old happy with Wiggles tapes so I can get some work done. Now the house is quiet and I think I am gonna make it!

Any tips on a pencil to go with the books? My books look ok and the apple is iffy--but probably as good as it is gonna get for me! Trying to think of other little extras to add in there.

Happy Caking everyone!!

Not actually working on a cake tonight. Trying to get the final idea for a cake I'll do tomorrow for VBS wrap-up on Sunday. Our theme was "Kickin' It Old School" (80's Rock) by the Go Fish Guys, so I'm thinking of doing a jam box. Wish I had enough people to make a tall 13x19 cake so the box would be standing up, but that's alot of cake and not enough people to eat it. And I hate throwing away "money". I think I'm going to "cheat" and just pipe everything instead of fondant decorations. Depends on how much sleep I get tonight and how I feel tomorrow. Its been a busy/crazy week.

Good night All!

AHHH! I sent a picture of my almost finished cake to my sister just for fun. And she caught a spelling error on it! It was a math term that means nothing to me so I wouldn't know if it was wrong. That would have been embarrassing in a house full of math geniuses. I had to pry letters off a fondant cake and try to repair without a patch. Luckily, all is well and looks pretty good. Thank goodness for sisters for proof readers. I really wanna go to bed now.

LOL..I love how many of us are not really "working" on a cake but still working...

I have made lots of bows but the catch is always timing. If you have several days for the bow to dry then go for pure fondant. If you only have a few days then fondant with tylose or gumpaste. If you need it to be dry by tomorrow the pure gumpaste.

My flowers are doing ok..not happy with the orchid...thinking about redoing that one.

First time I've had the opportunity to post to FNCC. Usually I'm deep in the crumbs, but I seem to have got out ahead of the cake wave this week! I am working on a 3D BMW race car, have finished a tackle box and a rose cake today! Just finishing touches, will actually get to go to bed on a Friday night for the first time since April!

That was me last year! I actually baked in time off this summer. Not as much money but I have my sanity! LOL!

You are so right. As I mentioned..I'm working on pieces to a demo cake on a week I took "off". Part madness I'm sure!

Calling it a night now and heading off to bed. I got 4 done that I actually like but ended up trashing two that I just wouldn't be proud of. Thank goodness the flowers are all for the demo so I have lots of time to mess with the sugar work until I'm happy with it!

Night y'all!

I don't have a cake this week either, but I am working on my entries for the Local Show . I also have been recipe testing , developing a lemon mudcake, not entirely happy with the result yet so I have made my notes and will try again next week. Meanwhile my niece was quite happy to take away my test cakes for her houseguests .

I guess somewhere or other in the next week I will have to find time to do the work for my demonstration at the State Show , and the prep work for the next workshops I am running so I guess a week off is never really a week off is it?

Yeah, I always go into a "vacation" week with the idea that I'm not actually going to work on any form of cake but it never works out that way unless I go away somewhere. I'm always working on one aspect or the other.
