Scrapbook paper on cake board

Hi all,

I'm making a wedding style cake for my parent's 25th anniversary dinner which is Saturday. I have everything but one small tier to make, and the lemon curd. I already have my large boards where the complete cake will rest on. I was wondering if I could use scrapbook paper to cover the board?

My cake has buttercream and no fondant. Each tier has it's own cake board so the cake won't really touch the paper. Would this be ok?

I'm new to the cake world so I apologize if my question is dumb.

No this will not work if it is just normal scrapbook paper for several reasons. If you like the look of the paper, just cover your board with it and then put clear contact paper (I think that is what it is called) on top. That is actually a clear plastic.

i agree with Spuddysmom. PeggyDoesCake has atutorial on how to cover your board with scrapbook paper and then clear contact so no grease ruins your paper around the cake:

thumbs_up.gif This is what I do and it works great! I use contact paper to cover fabric on my boards, too. As long as your cake is on its own board and not directly on the contact paper, it's fine.

I think contact paper is not foodsafe. Several people on CC have the information on this. I use the scrapbook paper and add foodsafe clear plastic wrap on top.

Depends on where you live - in Australia we have food grade vinyl available in basic black and white and also clear

You will often see it on cakes made here

I do it all the time with scrapbook paper and then I wrap it with food-safe clear plastic that comes on rolls in Michaels. It is in the gift wrap section.
