So heres the deal. My business partner and I just started our own business this year. Its still very new and very small, but we stared it. We did everything we had to do, paid our fees and our taxes (but we do not have a store front). We baked and decorate everything in our houses while we still have a full time job so we can pay the bills. The business right now is far from becoming our only source of income. We are just starting advertising and building our clientele.
She informed me about a month ago that she had decided to move to a different state to be closer to her family, which I complete understand considering my own family lives across the continent. She said she still wants to keep the business, only she will do it there and I will do it here. In theory that sounds like a good idea, but now Im having second thoughts and Im getting worried that I will not be able to keep up having to do everything by myself plus having my other full time job. Im definitely not ready to quit my other job considering we are not making enough money with the cake business yet.
Ive giving it a lot of thought and I dont want to lose all the money we have already invested (were still in the negative) but at the same time I dont know if this a good idea anymore. What do you guys think? Should we just try to keep the business only doing it separately and see what happens? Or should we split and start our own separate business?
Just take on what you can individually as far as orders are concerned. You can take on 50% and it will be no different. You were splitting the money anyway. You will need to settle up on equipment.
The majority of bakers and decorators on this site have home kitchens and work alone, many with ful time jobs. You will be fine.
