Help, Dragees won't stick to dry gumpaste

I have dry, gumpaste letters that I'm trying to encrust with dragees, but the silly little dragees won't stick. I've tried water, vodka, extract, fondant glue and piping gel, but they just won't stay in place. I've even tried super glue, but that didn't work either.

Do you know of anything else I can try? Do you think Royal Icing will work?

First of all what in the heck are deagrees? And hmmm sounds like you know what your doing with all that you have tried except th water i have heard that water only makes gum paste soft and soggy hey did you try gum paste?

Yes, royal icing will work.

Did you try candy melts?
I prefer it to royal because it dries faster.

Royal icing is the VERY FIRST edible glue to try when sticking dry paste/icing items together.

Hope you threw away the pieces that had superglue...

You could also try white chocolate.

Relznik, that is exactly the look I was going for with my letters. I'll have to try sticking them with royal icing tomorrow cause stupid me ran out of sugar.

Akrainis, Occther, thanks for the tip on the candy melts/white chocolate. I can try that tonight. I always have chocolate on hand!!!

BakingIrene, I didn't think the superglue would be a problem because the silver dragees aren't edible either. icon_lol.gif But I probably wonât use them anyways. They have gotten a little warped/messy/sticky with all the experimenting I have done on them. icon_cry.gif Iâll start over again tomorrow and use either the candy melts or the royal icing.

One curious thing I've noticed is that the superglue does work on areas that I previously tried the white glue. The superglue won't bond the dragees to the dry gumpaste, but if there is a thin film of dried white glue stuck to the gumpatse the superglue will bond the dragees to dried white glue. Very interesting lesson in chemistry.

I did this with piping gel. I didn't have any trouble with it. But it has to have time to bond and dry a bit. Also, when finished I added silver disco dust to fill any gaps and give it another layer of texture and bling. Best of luck! Can't wait to see your design!

Success!!!! The melted chocolate worked like a charm. The dragees stayed in place with no slippage. Worked much better than the superglue icon_lol.gif
