Hello. I want to begin exploring scratch baking more. Looking for recommendations on books with good recipes or ones that explain how to come up with my own recipes (if that makes sense). Thanks!

My recommendations are the following for new scratch bakers because they explain the why's. These are not strictly cake books because to understand scratch baking, a knowledge of the manipulation of flour, eggs, sugar, and butter:

Warren Brown, Cake Love (a great book to start)
Joanne Chang, Flour
Dorie Greensapan, Baking From My Home To Yours
David Lebovitz, Ready for Dessert

A few others that just have good recipes that are easy to follow:

Baked and Baked Explorations
Back In The Day

After you learn the basics:

I'm test driving Warren Brown's Cake Love from the library, and it's definitely a must buy. If you don't have a scale I would strongly suggest buying one, you will get the best results with delicate cakes this way.
