4th of July red and blue!

Ok, the season is here! Any suggestions on how to make deep red and vibrant blue for the cake batter??? I'm gonna make a 3 layer... red, white and blue... I read about using color powder... would kool-aid mix work for coloring batter like it does for frosting??

Well you need gel or paste colour for sure.

But there isn't any good reason to make DEEP cake colours, because they won't be particularly appetizing when the cake is cut. Especially the blue...

It works for batter too. (might want to add coloring as well, if it's too pastel.)

Blue Kool-Aid tastes great in cake -- it gives it a citrus taste.

I'd use Americolors to get a good red and blue. Check out this cake by Wilton forum member gmoakes01.

Americolors work so much better than Wilton colors.
