Amount of fondant to cover 10" cake?

I read somewhere it would take 4lb of fondant to cover a 10" cake. Is this true? I usually avoid fondant covered cakes but my grandson wants a certain cake and it will have to be in fondant.

I doubt you'll need that much because it doesn't need to be crazy thick.

Just checked Wiltons site and looks like it takes 36oz to cover a 10" cake. I should have thought of checking Wiltons site but didn't.

Thanks, now I'm a little nervous about the actual covering of the cake.Lol

I bought the wilton rolled packs. Used two 24oz packs to cover a 10" square with 4" H. Had a lot left over so the 36oz seems correct.
