They are driving me crazy! 8 million emails for a first birthday cake, this one lady wants a tasting, "but not a formal tasting" (i.e., she doesn't want to pay what I charge for a tasting), and she wants it to look "exactly" like the picture. I finally had to say that there is no way it will look exactly like the picture, she should look on my website and get an idea what my work will look like. Then I agreed that she could come by and pick up one cupcake left over from a wedding I have on Saturday. And guaranteed she will be late! I don't know why these customers won't believe the hundred comments I have on my website saying a variation of "it was the BEST cake I have ever had!".

Please ladies - entertain me with some stories of customers who are driving you crazy!

Hi, the ones that give me a hard time, i won,t do. I can, tell on the phone if they are the trouble ones. I owned beauty shop for 40 years. I wouldn,t book them if didn,t like what was said on phone and now i won,t do any cakes for anyone that i know is trouble. you will get lots of the same answer from decorators on this site saying what i have said. Leave trouble alone. I would e-mail, call or whatever and cancel any cakes with her. You will know what to say and do. I am telling you, it isn,t worth it. Am i right to say, you have done the wedding cake. Now is the birthday cake. Bridezilla is any zilla!!!!

I once worked for a business manager who had a simple solution to an occasional problem. Some regular (=in the register database) customer would call and ask to pick something up after the store closed. We would tape it to the outside of the door in a bag. They were fine with that. The store treated some items as samples so no $$ issue.

Please, set up your email to bounce back with "I'm busy baking cakes" for whenever you need. Same with your voicemail. We have these tools, they work just fine to manage the %$#$$%%^$#$ who were raised into faux princesses by their parents.

This troublemaker doesn't show? Tape the cupcake to the door in a bag for her. No she's not a customer. Whoever doesn't want to respect your posted fee structure isn't a customer.

As far as pesky brides go, I found that the more communicative they are the better. Why? Because they're always talking, always emailing, always communicating so after their wedding they'll keep telling everyone how wonderful you are and this brings in more orders.

You are right! I had a bridezilla last year who sent me a million emails and changed her mind etc., and generally drove me up the wall - anyways, she has rec'd a few ppl to me (who weren't bridezilla's!). I am always very nice to these ppl who drive me crazy - I just like to complain to ppl who I know understand icon_smile.gif

Boy, do I feel your pain! I had contemplated taking my business solely "bridal" for a couple years, and a 1-year birthday Momzilla was the straw that broke the camels back! That lady was absolutely NUTSO...so I endured and delivered the cake then announced to the world that I was no longer making party cakes! I've NEVER looked back! Now, that's not to say that some brides are not totally aggravating, but I find them much more tolerable for the amount of money they're spending, and I can also gauge the "really" nutso brides from the "not so nutso" brides! I turned away 2 last year after consult because I knew they were a headache waiting to happen!
