Made a cake house (Pinkalicious) and a RKT roof to go on top. But for some reason, my RKT was too lumpy this time and I had to cover it 2X with fondant. Now it feels quite heavy. It is 3 layers of cake and I have support. But I"m afraid the roof is going to be too heavy. The cake is frozen right now
I am prepared to have to redo OR " fix" the roof but it was a lot of work in the first place, so the less work the better. I do not want to use gingerbread....It is for my daughter's 5th b-day and therefore important - don't want it sinking/buckling.
Do you think it will hold or should I redo? If so, what's best way... what to use?

I found this picture. The roof isn't steep. Why wouldn't you just carve it out of the op layer of the cake. No need to add a roof.

Stick 3 more long dowels through under the area where the cupcake will sit. Sharpen the ends and tap them down all the way through the RKT and to the bottom. That will support the cupcake.

The peaked roof will not collapse the square cake if you did add dowels properly. Don't worry about how heavy it feels in your hands--the area of the cake will support the peaked section just fine.

Thanks for the input. I am not putting a cupcake on top and in the book, the roof is a bit steeper (that is what I'm copying). But you're right, I think I'll just use cake! Doesn't have to be exact.... For some reason I had a mental block and didn't think cake would be the best thing to use at the time! But I can easily make a couple of cakes and carve...
