I purchased the Patch Work butterfly cutter set which I love. My friends daughter wants pink and silver butterflies. What color would you paint the body of the butterflies silver or pink? Or should I alternate and make some of the bodies silver and some pink. I am used to making the rice paper butterflies so I am having trouble visualizing the color. Dark on the edges fading to light in the center or the other way around. What's the rule of thumb for shading with dusts? Thank you.
I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. Make a few extra butterflies and experiment with colours. The bodies would look better with stronger colour, so my preference is to paint the bodies with dusting colour dissolved in alcohol and just dust the wings, perhaps painting a few darker spots near the wing tips. 
My inclination would be pink butterflies with silver edging.

I agree. Also, just dusting some pearl luster dust over all would make them shimmery. Heck, they're butterflies! You can do anything!
