Hello! Random question for those who have flown with cakes before. I'm flying home to MA for the 4th of July. I want to bring a decorated cake (8 or 10 in. round) home with me for our cookout. My question is, if I keep it in a box and carry it on with me, is it considered my one free carry on? I plan on bringing a carry on bag instead of checking one so will they let me bring both? Thanks for any help!

Your cake will be your carry on. You can still bring a purse or computer bag that will fit under the seat in front of you, so you can keep valuables with you. Your other piece of luggage will need to be checked.

I fly with cakes from OH to TX regularly and that's just how it works.

Also be sure to check the maximum dimensions allowed for carry on luggage. I travelled once with a 2-tier cake on a plane. The box couldn't fit under the seat so I had to put it in the overhead luggage compartment. The cake arrived safely in one piece (with lots of prayers).

ditto the above. I've done it too. It needs to fit under the seat if possible. Obviously, don't choose a front row seat.
