My niece has asked me to do their wedding cake at a beach hotel venue. They apparently allow "outside" cakes providing the bride picks an alternate item from the menu to "make up the difference". My question is what should I find out from the venue in regards to setting up and probably million other things I don't know about? My thoughts so far were: Time frame allowed for set up/ where to deliver the cake/will they do the cutting....what else? Obviously, this will be a first "venue" delivery for me & I don't want to do anything to mess up her day (thankfully, it's a simple design cake ). Thanks for any advice!
You're worrying too much. I don't ask the venue anything. I get the venue name, address, contact person's name and number, and delivery time from the bride. If I arrive and the door is locked, the contact person is called.

This is for the bride to find out/know, It shouldnot be your problem. Some venues charge a 'cutting/plating fee that can be *more* than a decorator's per serving charge
There are some venues here in the city I live that do not allow cakes from unlicensed bakers, even if it is from the aunt or mom of the bride. I'm making no assumptions about your legality, but I think you may want to ask this question.
My mom made my sister's cake and since the reception was at the church, this wasn't an issue. But had my sister had the reception at the local arts center, it would have been.
I just ask them when a good time to deliver it is, and I make sure to ask the person who will actually be there that day. If you get someone in the front office they might give you incorrect information.
