Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help with covering a sphere with fondant. It will be for a large baseball.

Covering a sphere in fondant

covering a sphere is not that difficult. Make sure the cake is stable and well doweled before covering with fondant. You might want to chill the cake (I never have but other do) before covering.
Roll out fondant same as with any cake. Gently smooth around the cake, tucking in in and cutting off excess as you go and smoothing out wrinkles.
I have covered spheres for Death Star cakes and for a bowling ball. Didn't have a bit of trouble with them.

That was my plan. With a baseball, there is only one seam so I'd need two pieces. I guess I'll make a template and see how it goes.

You don't end up with too much fondant on the bottom half causing it to overlap?
