Is it okay to just serve cupcakes for the cake tasting? I usually bake a 6 x4 " cake. It seems like such a waste of time and money.

I prefer to serve cupcakes. I usually give each person half (or a third) of each flavor cupcake. This is great because there's always a personal need for cupcakes (my kid's friends parties or barbecues or whatever) and I can freeze the leftover undecorated cupcakes for later.
