How do I make sure heavy fondant will stand on cupcakes

I am making cupcakes this weekend with fondant director's signs to stick in the frosting. I am worried they will be too heavy and fall back rather than stand. I am using buttercream frosting and will make a little more firm but I want it to still taste good. Any ideas??

Either stick the flags onto totthpicks to insert into cupcakes or pipe a dollop of firm icing onto the cupcake so that the back of the sign can rest against it

I would do the fondant flags on skewers (longer than toothpicks) that can be cut to size so that they push down into the cake not just into the icing (assuming you are doing piped buttercream on top).

you know the director's clapboard signs they use for how many takes of a movie...I made those to put on cupcakes for a movie themed party- they aren't that big...I am just worried they may be a little too heavy for the buttercream to hold it up...they are about 3 in x 3in of fondant as a cupcakes topper
