I have someone wanting a 16th birthday cake with stars coming out of the top. The stars are attached to what looks like wire.. I have seen this many times but have always wondered what type of wire is used???
And is the wire wrapped with something or just stuck down in the cake???
Can this wire be bought somewhere like walmart? I have no local craft stores around me and walmart is an hour drive...
Any feedback is welcome! Thanks! =)
Can you tell me what type of wire was used for this cake:

And where to buy it at??? I'm not sure what size to order to hold up fondant pieces.
If you dont have craft stores near you ask your local florist if you can buy a few lengths of 22 gauge florist wire. Do NOT stick directly into the cake. Use drinking straws with a plug of fondant in the bottom to hold your wired stars etc.
My trick is to bend the wire into an "L" down towards the end, about 1 inch from the end. This stops it from swaying around. Then dip it in chocolate and let dry. And poke it into the cake, then give it a 1/4 turn. It works every time!
What about files or hacksaws in cakes?
I dip them in chocolate also before inserting into cakes
