Red Icing - No Taste

Thread Starter
I have a cake that is due tomorrow and I'm in a bit of a bind. One of the cakes was supposed to be iced with red whip cream. Well I wasn't able to get the whip cream red...the best I could do was get it dark pink. Whip cream is a bit "testy" so I couldn't 'play' it as much as I would like to. So I switched over to buttercream. I used an entire gel tube of No Taste Red and was able to finally get it red but it taste horrible!!! Even though it says No Taste Red it still taste disgusting. I'm not sure what else to do.

I have a tight deadline so any quick fixes or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you!

I would make another batch of white icing and mix some of each together. You will stretch out all the coloring it sounds like you used in the red... if that makes sense... Once you do that, let your icing set for a few hours after you mix it up, and the colors will develop. You could also mix in a little brown or black to help get that deeper red color. It's like that for black too... I mix it up till it's a dark grey and let it sit overnight, and the next morning it's black. HTH!

I try to educate my clients re vibrant colors in large amts just don't taste good.
If they just have to have it I purchase the BC or fondant already colored.
Saves my time and sanity.
