When To Add Borders To Sheet Cake?
Decorating By Ilovekitties Updated 6 Jun 2012 , 8:47am by nikhelneal
I'm new to cake decorating and I have a question: Should I decorate the top of the cake and add the borders last, or vice versa? I'm making my first decorated sheet cake for my daughter's birthday, and I'd like to avoid as many mistakes as possible! Thanks for your help! (I love this website!)
I am by no means an expert on sheetcakes but I think do the borders last. That way you wouldn't have to worry about nicking them while decorating. Good luck and Happy Birthday to your daughter
I do mine last for the same reason. Also, if the design runs to the edge of the cake I don't have to worry about adjusting the border! This is a great website!
A general rule for cake decorating is to always go from the top, down--that way, you don't risk disturbing the work you've already completed. So, borders last.
