Hi,

I want to switch my Wilton mat to other fondant mat, so can easily cover the cake. Any suggestion?

Heard that 'the mat' does not last, how about Ateco or FMM? Are they good?

Thanks
Anna

Well, I don't know about "The Mat" "not lasting".............I haven't found that to be so.

I have both Ateco mats--blue silicone and beige with blue grid--and I hate them both. The grid mat has a slight texture and the grid peels off after a time, getting into the fondant. The blue mat is a giant dust magnet that's hard to clean.

I only roll on one piece of The Mat. I put it down on my counter using water and I leave it there, being careful not to cut on it with anything sharp. I roll out on it on a smear of crisco and pick up the rolled out fondant on my pin, keeping the rolled on surface as the "top".

I find that each piece lasts about a year if I'm careful. I don't think less than $10 is bad because if I cut it, I'm not out much. For the 2 Ateco mats, if you cut one of those, you're out a LOT-- and you have to pitch the grid mat because the interior fibers are fiberglass and you can't have that coming out on food.
