In my sleep-deprived haze last night, I left a small tier out of the refrigerator by mistake while moving things around, and just discovered it this morning. It's just cake and buttercream - will it be OK? I have left out iced cupcakes overnight, so I'm hoping it's OK - what do you think?

If it's American bc, it should be fine.

Covered or uncovered? Left it out where? Do you have pets? Any perishable ingredients in the buttercream?

It depends.

It was uncovered, but decorated. Regular buttercream, with butter, shortening, milk and sugar. I think it'll be fine, but I had a panic attack there for a minute!

You should be fine, as long as no furry family members decided to snack on it while you slept.
