I've just joined CakeCentral, and this is my first post.
I am still newish to cake decorating, and have been asked by a customer to make a Tardis cake next weekend.
I know how I am going to stack the cake to get the vertical shape, but am wondering about the best way to cover it with fondant. I was thinking of covering the whole thing with the fondant, and then adding extra fondant to the sides for the details. I am scared though that these extra fondant pieces will fall off.
If anyone has made a fondant covered Tardis cake and has any advice or tips it would be greatly appreciated.

I did a Tardis cake a while back. It was definitely a learning experience! I applied a panel of fondant to each side individually then attached the fondant accents and I had no trouble getting them to stay. To hide the seams in each corner I applied a corner piece to finish it off. There is a picture in my photos if you want to have a look. Good luck!

I have done my past TARDIS cakes just as Yates77 said. Making panels for each side is far easier than trying to cover it in one big piece. You get more of a squarish-boxy look, which is exactly what you need. I use extra fondant strips to shore up each corner, then 3 different sized squares for the top.

I am totally new here as well, so I have no idea how to put up photos, but I know that there are tons of awesome TARDIS cakes on the web to give you some ideas.

Thanks so much. I managed to get the cake done! It wasn't as perfect as I wanted it to be, but the customer was happy with it.

I first off tried covering with one big piece of fondant, which, as I thought it would, ripped in the corners as soon as I put it on. I ended up doing 2 long panels, and going up one side, over the top, and then down the opposite side. It was a very nerve wracking process!

What is a Tardis cake? I googled it and got images of tall rectangular structures like phone booths. Is Tardis just the name used to describe the shape and height of the cake or is it a specific cake design?

The Tardis is from Doctor Who. I have never actually watched it myself, but I believe Doctor Who uses it for transportation.

Looks great _AngelBerry_!! I also find it comical that yours was for a five year old, and my first was for a 40 year old :p I suppose use Doctor Who fans come in all ages. And yes, the TARDIS is his time-space machine what looks like an old Police Box
