My husband has recently found a new job to go along with the schooling that he just graduated from recently. He is being sent to San Diego on a business trip to attend a conference. I am going also since my company is having a plant shut down the same week he will be gone but I will be alone while he is at the conference during the day.

Does any body know of any cake decorating classes or anything that may be going on next week? We will be staying at the Hilton Gaslamp Quarter which is, from what I understand, about 6 blocks from the conference (Hard Rock Hotel?). We will have no vehicle available and will have to walk to get to where we need to go.

Any body have any suggestions on how I may occupy my time?

Well, I can't really help you with any cake deco stuff in that area, but I LOVE San Diego.

You'll be a stone's throw from a gorgeous waterfront, Catalina Island, and Old Towne. Being such a tourist town, you can be picked up from your hotel for any number of 1/2 day or day long tours--even one up to Hollywood to see The Grove, Grauman's Chinese Theater, Hollywood walk of fame.

Have fun & enjoy.

Catalina is way to far to walk to. You'd need several hours by bus to get to hollywood or any of those sights, so a tour offered by the hotel would be best for those.

Walking from the gaslamp you can go to Seaport village, it's beautiful, plus the Star of India and any other boats docked . Wonderful resturants too. You'll be near Petco park and can watch the Padres lose if they are in town (sorry, but they are horrible this year).

I have a class at Do It With Icing on Saturday 6/2. There is also Amy malones school of decorating in La Mesa, but you'd need transportation to get to both. Then of course there is Sea World and the zoo (it's amazing) and Balboa park. Weather is gorgeous right now, so try to find a tour for those.

Thanks guys. We have actually been to the Zoo when we went my stepson graduated from boot camp. We really enjoyed it and are thinking about going back some evening when he is done with the conference for the day. We arrive around 4:00 Monday and fly back home on Saturday afternoon.

Sweetflowers, funny you should mention the Padres. A couple days after we found out that we were going to San Diego, I found out that my cousin was traded to them from the White Soxs His name is Eric Stultz. He started playing for the Dodgers, then to Japan and came back recently to the White Soxs. They decided to release him and the Padres snatched him up before anybody else had a chance. He is a left-handed pitcher. I don't think they will be having any home games while we will be there though.
