I have been reading all I can find about putting fondant accents on buttercream but was wondering about the tappitts lettering. I've made mine out of 100% fondant (mixed with extra powedered sugar) and they are drying (cake's not due until Saturday). If I add these to my buttercream cake and then refrigerate the cake the night before the party, will the letters be okay? They will be placed on the sides of the cake and they are royal blue on white icing. I don't want them to bleed or slide off!
Thanks for anyone's help, first time using the tappitts and have never placed fondant on a refrigerated cake.

I put fondant letters on buttercream all the time and I never refrigerate my cakes and have never had a problem.

Of course, if you have to refrigerate the cake because of filling, etc. I can't really answer the question, but I still don't think there would be a problem.

I did it before and refrigerated my cakes and it was perfect. You can see it on my Mario Cake.

Hi!

It is ok to place fonadant/gum paste on buttercream, and leave overnight, but you cannot put it in the fridge- as fondant cannot be kept in the fridge. icon_biggrin.gif

If you need to refigerate your cake, then it is best that you add the letterings/fondant decorations when the cake is out of the fridge and ready to be served!

If the cake doesnt have to be in the fridge- then you can put the decorations from now icon_smile.gif

hope that helps!

I put fondant decorations on buttercream cakes and always refrigerate; I have not had any problems doing it like that.
